Goiter
A goiter is a swelling of the thyroid gland. Before commercial salt became widely available, it was sometimes caused by lack of iodine in the diet. Now it is usually associated with other issues including thyroiditis and thyroid cancer. It can cause difficulty swallowing, breathing, or the feeling of pressure or choking.
